Explore some of the highest peaks in the United States!
Colorado has more peaks over 14,000 feet than the rest of the United States combined! Locally known as the 14ers, these peaks have made Colorado a mountain climbing destination. Come experience the challenge and the views of climbing a 14er with Irwin Guides.
Whether it is your first mountaineering excursion or you are a seasoned veteran looking for a challenge, our guides can offer you a safe, fun, experience. Explore the 14ers of the Sawatch Range, which in the summer are non-technical and a great first 14er experience for any hiker. They can also be climbed via snow routes in the spring time, using snowshoes or skis, crampons, and ice axes. Or try one of the coveted Crestones routes, two of the hardest summits of any of the Colorado 14ers. Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle can be climbed separately or combined into a single day, one of Colorado’s 4 “Great Traverses”. Crestone Peak is also home to the Ellingwood Arete, one of the 50 Classic Climbs of North America.

Trip Details
Crestones Traverse
One of Colorado’s 4 “Great Traverses” this technical route allows you to climb both Crestone Peak and Crestone Needle in a single trip after hiking in and camping the night before.
Ellingwood Arete
One of the “50 Classic Climbs of North America”
Come experience why this rock climbing route on Crestone Peak has earned such a fantastic reputation. Lots of great 4th class scrambling followed by several pitches of fun and challenging 5th class rock climbing just below the summit.
Technical vs. Non-Technical
Technical (Crestone Peak, Crestone Needle) peaks require the use of harnesses, helmets, and ropes to protect sections of 4th and 5th class climbing that are required to reach the summit.
Non-technical peaks (Humboldt, Antero, Shavano, Tabeguache) while still challenging because of the altitude, do not require the use of ropes, and can be hiked in a group all the way to the summit.
Shavano and Tabeguache
These 14ers can be climbed separately or combined into a single day trip where you tag both summits via a non-technical ridge that connects them.
Single Day or Overnight
Most 14er trips can be done in a single day or turned into overnight trips. Overnight trips allow for a slower pace of the climb, or the opportunity to summit an additional 14er on the trip.
